Make centerpieces to honor the expectant mother and baby.
If you are hosting a baby shower, consider making centerpieces to transform your living room into a baby welcome wagon. They can serve two roles: decorations for the festivities and gifts to give the mother-to-be. She can take home all the functional accessories used to make the pieces after the shower is over. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Make a flower vase using a baby bottle. Use a bottle that has a wide base so it will not tip over. Place fake or fresh-cut flowers inside.
2. Use a hearty houseplant, like an aloe, jade plant or bamboo, to make a baby accessory tree. Hang soothers, bibs and ribbons on plant stems.
3. Fill baby bowls halfway with decorative rocks or flat glass marbles. Place a tea light on top and light when the baby shower starts. Fill baby bowls with water to float fresh-cut flower blossoms.
4. Fill the basket portion of a bassinet with apples, star fruit, tangerines, plums, pears, lollipops and candy. Guests can snack on these items throughout the shower.
5. Use a tiered cake stand to create a multilevel centerpiece. Place a colorful array of folded baby cloths and baby socks on the different levels. Using a little bit of sticky tack, prop up some pocket-size kids books and mini stuffed animals. The website Baby Shower Ideas decorated its tiered cake stand with rubber duckies and animal theme cupcakes.
6. Make a baby mobile to hang from the ceiling over top of the center of the table. Paint one or several wooden dowels using acrylic paint. Attach fishing line to the dowel so it can hang. Attach additional dowels to the original if you wanted a tiered mobile. Tie small stuffed animals, rattles or pom poms to hang off the base dowel. Make and hang cut-outs of babies, storks, animals or letters spelling the baby's name using origami paper or card stock.
