Make Happy Birthday Decorations

Birthday Balloons

Birthday parties can be a lot of fun for everyone, with cake, presents, games and a lot of laughter. Decorations are sometimes used to help set the party atmosphere. Traditional birthday party decorations include a banner, confetti, balloons, streamers and centerpieces. These bright, festive decorations boost the party mood with guests. They also makes the birthday boy or girl feel very special. Get creative and make your own birthday party decorations. It is simple to do and means so much to the birthday boy or girl. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Purchase triangle felt pieces and create your own pennants for the birthday party. Hot glue scrapbook embellishments or felt cut-outs onto the triangles to make them interesting. You could also sew them onto a long piece of ribbon to create a pennant banner. Make sure the triangles meet corner to corner, with the points pointing down. Use different colors for a more festive effect.

2. Cut up colorful paper to make your own confetti. Find old magazines or recyclables to use. Pick the colorful pictures with very little wording to make the best party confetti. Snip the pages into tiny pieces of paper, then spread them out across the party table or snack buffet for a festive, decorative touch.

3. Create a centerpiece using a variety of helium-filled balloons. Carefully draw on the balloons with gel pens or acrylic paint. You can even use stencils to help you. Create drawings or write special messages for the birthday girl. Make a weight by filling a plastic baggy with several rocks. Wrap the baggie with colorful wrapping paper. Tape the balloon ribbons to the inside of the wrapping paper, then tie the wrapping paper shut using lots of colorful ribbon. Use your scissors to create curls in the ends of the ribbons.

4. Create a banner using paper, string, markers and tape. Decide what you want your banner to say. You need one piece of paper for each letter. Draw, stencil or print off the letter on each piece of paper. Color or decorate the page any way you wish. You can add glitter, paint or simply color in the letter. Fold the top part of the page over the string and tape the fold so it stays in place. Tape each letter until you have completed your banner.

5. Make your own pinata for the birthday party. Blow up a balloon and tie off the end. Tear newspaper strips into 1- to 2-inch pieces. Mix flour and water together to create a paper mache paste. Dip the newspaper into the mixture, then start layering the balloon with newspaper strips. Leave the space around the smaller end of the balloon open. Create two or three layers of newspaper on the balloon. Allow it to dry completely. Pop the balloon using a needle. Punch two holes at the top and tie a piece of ribbon through so you can hang your pinata. Decorate the pinata by gluing strips of tissue paper to the sides. Fill it with candy and toys if you want to use it in a birthday party game.
