Make Luau Birthday Invitations

If you've decided to throw a Luau birthday party for that special someone, you will want to get your potential guests excited about the event with a colorful luau party invitation. It can be a child's party with chicken and pineapple kabobs on the grill or a full backyard pig roast. Why not make invitations to match your luau event? Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Decide on the symbols for your luau and purchase stickers, paper-punch tools or die cuts to match. You can choose pineapples, coconuts, palm trees, volcanoes, hula dancers or flowers. Paper-punched flowers can be used to make a border similar to a lei, or you can make a simple cluster of blossoms with paper-punched palm leaves.

2. Choose a decorative font for the wording if you want to use your computer. Place an invitation card in your printer and print out the details for the party on the interior of the card. Remember to include the party date, the name of the birthday celebrant, the location and the time of the party. Be sure to write a notation if it is a surprise party.

3. You can handprint or rubber-stamp the invitation details instead of using computer-generated fonts. Choose a generic rubber stamp invitation and press it into a dark ink pad. Carefully press the inked rubber stamp inside the invitation card. Let dry before handprinting your party information.

4. Decorate the cover of the invitation with stickers, die cuts or paper-punched shapes. Handprint or use stickers to title the cover "It's a Luau Birthday Party" or "You Are Invited." For example, you can punch out two dozen or more colorful miniature flower blossoms and make a lei border around the card cover. Use craft foam dots or stickers to make the invitation decoration "pop" at your potential guests.

5. Use colored ink pens or pencils to decorate your paper-punched shapes or rubber-stamped image details.

6. Fold the card with a bone folder or wooden craft stick for a crisp, straight line.
