Make Paper Flowers For Ears For A Hawaiian Luau

Luaus often feature Hawaiian music and hula dancing.

Celebrate summer or fight off the doldrums of winter with a Hawaiian Luau party. Enhance the festive vibe of your event by encouraging guests to arrive in Hawaiian-themed attire. Accessorize your own outfit by making a paper flower to wear behind your ear. Paper flowers are less expensive than real flowers and do not wilt during the course of the event. Make extra flowers to give to guests as party favors.

Instructions

1. Crinkle a sheet of tissue paper to give your flower texture. Crumple the paper into a ball, then gently open it.

2. Spread the tissue paper out on a flat work surface and run your hands over it to smooth the major wrinkles. Fold the sheet in half lengthwise and align the edges evenly.

3. Place a yellow pipe cleaner at one end of the folded sheet of tissue paper. Twist the end of the pipe cleaner into a round knob that resembles the pollen-laden center of a flower. Position the pipe cleaner so the yellow knob falls in the middle of the tissue paper's width.

4. Wrap the tissue paper around the pipe cleaner and secure it with a piece of tape. Position the tape so it touches both the pipe cleaner the tissue paper, to prevent the two from sliding apart.

5. Wrap the rest of the tissue paper around the pipe cleaner, creating a cone shape. Wrap the tissue tightly at the base where it joins with the pipe cleaner and let it fan out at the end, mimicking the shape of a flower.

6. Attach the end of the tissue paper to adjoining layers with a piece of tape, once you wrap the entire sheet around the pipe cleaner.

7. Rearrange the two layers of tissue paper. Tug on them to separate them slightly so they resemble flower petals.

8. Wrap the end of the pipe cleaner around your ear, positioning the flower at the side of your face.
