Make Hawaiian Christmas Crafts

Add tropical leis to your Christmas decor for a Hawaiian-themed celebration.

Celebrate Christmas in a festive and unique fashion by introducing Hawaiian-styled decorations to your Christmas adornments. A Hawaiian-themed Christmas is a fun way to add a new twist to the biggest holiday of winter by celebrating in a homemade tropical paradise. If you can't get away for a beach holiday this Christmas, bring the beach to you by introducing Hawaiian-themed Christmas decorations such as leis for dressing your tree, and tropical flower wreaths for adorning your front door.

Instructions

Christmas Tree Leis

1. Cut flower shapes out of the colored tissue paper, approximately two inches in diameter. You will need many flowers for the lei to reach around your Christmas tree, so fold the tissue paper into layers and cut out multiple flowers all at once.

2. Cut a length of string the same length that you want your finished lei to be. Tie a knot in the end of your string and thread the other end through your needle.

3. Poke the needle through the center of one of your tissue paper flowers and thread the flower onto the thread. Continue threading cut out tissue paper flowers onto the thread in this manner until the thread is completely full of blossoms.

4. Tie a second knot in the thread at the end of your lei and wrap the tissue paper lei around your Christmas tree.

5. Hang additional flower leis over doorways and wind them amongst candles to fully incorporate Hawaiian style into your Christmas decor.

Tropical Flower Tissue Paper Wreath

6. Cut a 12-inch piece of craft wire and twist it into a circle. This serves as the base form of your tropical flower Hawaiian Christmas wreath.

7. Stack approximately five pieces of tissue paper on top of one another. The colors may vary if desired or may be of a similar shade. One stack of tissue paper will make up one flower blossom on your wreath.

8. Accordion folds, or zig zag folds, are created by folding paper back and forth.

Use an accordion-style fold to fold the stack of paper together. Each fold should be approximately one-inch in width. Continue folding in a back-and-forth accordion-style manner until the entire stack of tissue paper is folded into a one-inch wide accordion.

9. Grasp the folded paper accordion in the center and wrap a six-inch piece of craft wire around the middle of the accordion, holding it together tightly. Do not trim the excess wire, as it will be used to hold the flower onto your wreath form.

10. Pull one layer of the tissue paper up towards the center of the flower to open the tissue paper blossom. Continue pulling each layer of tissue paper up towards the center of the flower, opening the flower blossom completely.

11. Wrap the ends of wire at the center of the flower around the base of your topical flower Christmas wreath, securing it to the wreath form. Continue creating additional tissue paper flowers and attaching them to the wreath form until you completely fill it with brilliant, blossoming Hawaiian tissue paper flowers.
