Throw The Best Kindergarten Hawaiian Luau

All it takes to throw the best kindergarten Hawaiian luau is a little time and preparation.

Bright colors, tasty food and fun activities are what it takes to create a festive kindergarten Hawaiian luau. Have your students participate in creating the decorations and costumes in order for them to take ownership of their party. Organizing each step of the process so that nothing is left undone will ensure that you will be able to focus on the fun and that the children will have the best Hawaiian luau ever. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Decorate the classroom or space with bright colors and tropical themes. Use items such as tiki lights, inflatable palm trees and colorful banners. Further enhance the atmosphere of the space with garland, ceiling dangles, tropical tablecloths and/or grass table skirts. Brightly colored plates, cups and cutlery will tie the theme together. Enhance the festive mood with island-inspired music.

2. Dress in festive Hawaiian attire. Traditional grass skirts and leis can be found at most party and craft stores at reasonable prices. Kids can also create flower hair combs and wrist bracelets to wear for their special party day. Have the children wear brightly colored T-shirts and flip-flops to complete the look.

3. Create a meal of creative and simple tropical-inspired foods and drinks. Pay homage to the tradition of pit-roasting a whole pig by preparing pulled pork sandwiches with a pineapple-barbecue marinade. Or prepare barbecue chicken by using this same marinade. Round off the meal with coconut fritters, grilled pineapple and other fruit. Create a punch using a mixture of juices and ginger ale to obtain a bubbly effect, and garnish with cocktail umbrellas or fruit slices.

4. Teach the kids to hula. Have them listen to music and create stories in their minds. Then ask them to use basic movements to create their own hulas and share them with the group. The children can also make art projects using coconuts, tempura paints and paint brushes. Have the children paint faces on the coconuts as a fun way to celebrate and remember their luau.

5. Give each child a luau-inspired goodie bag at the end of the party. Fill it with items such as tropical-themed pencils and erasers, sunglasses and candy. Each time the children write with their pencils or wear their sunglasses, they will remember all of the fun they had at their kindergarten Hawaiian luau.
