Make Your Own Tropical Greeting Cards

Make your own beautiful tropical greeting cards to send or give as a gift.

Send one-of-a-kind greeting cards to your family and friends, or make a set of cards to give as a gift. Handcrafted cards are not only easy, they can be free or inexpensive when made with items you have around the house. Special themes are also inexpensive, yet are easily created with embellishments or pictures that reflect that theme. Make tropical greeting cards with themed pictures or craft items like palm trees, hibiscus and lily flowers, flower leis, colorful birds and tropical fruits. Sand, seashells, surfboards and hula dancers also represent a tropical theme.

Instructions

1. Fold paper or card stock in half or in quarters to make the desired size of card.

Use plain paper for an inexpensive card or card stock for a more professional look.

You may also cut a piece of card stock in half, then fold one of the cut pieces in half to make a less bulky card.

2. Trim tropical clip art or pictures to your desired size and look to fit the front of the card. Keep in mind how many pictures and embellishment items you want to place on the front of the card. For example, you may wish to cut off part of the trunk of a palm tree to have all the palm leaves fit onto the card or trim off the leaves on the left side of the picture to be able to place the tree on the left edge of the card front.

3. Glue the pictures and any desired embellishments to the front of the card. Arrange the pictures and embellishments so the front of the card doesn't look crowded, yet portrays the look for which you are striving. Leave enough room to write words on the card front if you plan to write a caption.

4. Write a caption phrase on the card front. Use colorful ink or gel pens or a dark color to achieve the desired effect. The caption may be a greeting, such as "thinking of you," "happy birthday" or "congratulations," or a phrase to indicate that the card is an invitation or announcement.

5. Open the card to the inside. Glue a small picture or embellishment on the left side of the card, if desired. Use the right side of the card to write your greeting or announcement information.

6. Make more cards with the same design and phrases, or make a set of differently designed cards. To turn a set of cards into a gift, simply tie a few cards and matching envelopes together in a stack with a decorative ribbon.
