Word Hawaiian Invitations

The right invitation wording can set the tone for a Hawaiian-themed event.

A Hawaiian-themed celebration is a festive, dynamic and colorful motif for any special event, from a summer soiree to a child's birthday party or even a romantic wedding rehearsal. Invitations are helpful for not only giving attendees the information they need to make it to the big day, but also for introducing the theme and setting the tone of the event. How you word your invitation can help make the Hawaiian theme apparent and inviting. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Feature the word "Aloha" inside the card above the party information on the cover in colorful floral-accented letters or even on the invitation's envelope. In Hawaii, it is standard to use aloha to mean both hello and goodbye. Your Hawaiian-themed invitation could feature this word as an opening salutation to the event. Because it is indicative of Hawaiian culture, this greeting could be used to initially introduce the theme to your guests. Since the word is also used for goodbye, you can even use it to mean time. For example, "Party begins at 4 pm; we bid 'aloha' at 8 pm."

2. Keep the Hawaiian-themed wording throughout the body of the invitation. For example, instead of saying "food and drinks will be served at noon," you could say "Poi and pina coladas await you at noon."

3. Deliver any other important Hawaii-related information to the guests on the inside of the invitation. For example, if you want them to dress a certain way such as for an island celebration, indicate this in the invitation by saying "tropical attire required."

4. Set the scene for your party guests. While most invitations just feature an itemized list of pertinent information, your invitation can feature a poem that hints at the event that lies in store for them. For example, "You are invited to the land of ukuleles and rum/ pineapples, hula, surfboards and fun/ we'll have poi, coconuts and sweet things to eat/ put a lei around your neck and get ready for a treat."

5. Cater the invitation to the nature of the event. For example, if you are planning a child's birthday party, you could write something such as "We are going coco-nuts to celebrate Susie's birthday party!" For a party with a more romantic vibe, such as a wedding rehearsal or Valentine's Day party, you could describe white sand beaches, palm fronds in the breeze and moonlit walks by the ocean.
