Pareos often sport bright colors and fringe.
A sarong or pareo is a rectangular-shaped fabric that is useful as a skirt, bathing suit cover-up or dress. It is often worn by people living in Polynesian cultures or visiting tropical resorts. Sarong fabrics are often brightly colored or have large floral or other Hawaiian-style patterns. You can purchase sarongs or pareos during the spring and summer months at department stores or year round at beachwear shops. The uses of the sarong are limited only by your imagination for this versatile fashion accessory.
Instructions
Skirt
1. Grab an end of the pareo fabric in each hand behind your back to create a horizontal line.
2. Pull the ends around your waist to the front of your body.
3. Wrap the right side of the fabric away from your body with the inside of the fabric facing out. This prevents bulkiness once you tie the pareo.
4. Tie the pareo fabric into a half knot so it fits snugly.
5. Wrap the ends around each other again to form another half knot.
6. Slide the knot to the side or wear it in front. This style is appropriate for men and women.
Halter Dress
7. Grab one end of the pareo fabric behind your back.
8. Grip the other end with your other hand. This allows it to hang horizontally behind your back.
9. Pull the two ends up toward your chest area and cross over each other.
10. Tie the two ends comfortably behind your neck. Adjust the crossed straps in the bust area, if necessary.
