Instructions

Online invitations

1. Compare websites that offer free invitations and other services to see which website has more of what you're looking for in your party planning needs. Additional services include party planning tools, gifts and other entertaining ideas. Popular websites for free invitations include Evite, Socializr and MyPunchBowl.

2. Register for a free account with the website of your choice. You will be asked to provide your name, email and contact information.

3. Choose the theme for your event. The website will provide a selection of invitations in that category with images, color schemes and sample text. You can also create your own design from scratch or change any default invitation's options.

4. Create a fun title for your event and fill out the details for the event including the address, date and time. You will also be able to add an additional note for your guests on the invitation, if you choose.

5. Preview the finished design and add or change any details. If you are not ready to send the invitation, you can save a draft or copy to your account on the website.

6. Collect emails from your guests and add them to your invite list. If you don't have the email available, you can still add the guest's name to the invitation, which will give you an idea of how many invites are being sent out. You will be able to add additional guests to the invitation even after it has been sent.

7. Send the invitation when you have completed designing and adding guest emails. Your guests will receive the email and have the opportunity to RSVP after viewing the online invitation.

8. Send your guests a reminder at least one week prior to the event date by sending a complimentary email blast from the invitation site. You will be able to add details or make changes and even cancel the event prior to the event's date, if necessary.

Print your own invitations

9. Choose from a variety of websites offering free invitation templates that you can download and print from home. Most websites that offer this will not require you to register with their website.

10. Choose from a variety of styles and templates. You may even get some ideas of your own, and create invitations with software or any design program. The website will give tips on print, and any other pertinent information, to ensure your invitation prints properly.

11. Customize the invitation online with your own text or messages for your guests. You will be able to preview the invitation and make edits, if necessary.

12. Print a sample invitation to make sure the directions are followed as directed, and to see how the final print will look. If you are satisfied, print as many copies of the invitation as you need.

13. Consider the type of paper you will use to print your invitations. If you choose black ink and have designs to print, use colored paper to make your invitations more fun. For full-color invitations, choose a good multi-purpose paper stock that prints well.
