Print On Invitations

Print out your own invitations using a computer and printer.

Invitations can be very expensive. One way to keep costs low is to buy the invitation paper and print the invitations yourself, using your home computer and printer. You can use your own word processing program and create the invitation template or use templates available online. It is best to do several tests when printing invitations as different ink will behave in different manners as well. Card stock is different from regular printer paper, so the printing will vary from the usual process.

Instructions

1. Measure the height and width of your invitation to create a printing template on the computer. Use a ruler to get the exact measurements. If the invitations are folded in half, also measure the folding dimensions of the invitation.

2. Change the side, top and bottom margins so that the paper template in the word processing program matches the dimensions of the paper invitations. Normally, a word processing program starts with a template that measures 8 inches by 11 inches. However the space on your invitation will rarely match standard paper. Therefore increasing or decreasing the margins is the easiest way to create the correct template in the word processing program. Make sure that the margins are equal on all sides, so that the invitation template is properly centered.

3. Load the invitation into the printer, moving the printer holding tabs so that the paper is held securely in place within the tray. The tab is found in the paper tray; it normally looks like a peg extending up from the bottom of the tray and can move depending on the size of the paper in the tray.

4. Open the printer tab within the word processing program to change the paper size. Normally this is a button on the toolbar labeled "Print" with a picture of a printer. Select the printer properties button and change the paper size found underneath the page setup options. The location of the paper size option may vary depending on the word processing program you are using. One of the preloaded paper sizes may match your invitation dimensions. If the templates do not match the invitation dimensions, you will need to create your own using the custom tab option.

5. Type out the information on the word processing template. Invitations traditionally use centered spacing, but you can choose different formats for your invitations, including the font, font size and color.

6. Print out a test invitation using a spare invitation or a piece of paper cut to size. It is best to use an actual invitation, as the paper weight and density is different and the ink will behave in different manners. Make any adjustments as needed until the invitation looks the way you want.
