Clean your dentures and get rid of old stains.
The wear and tear of daily use can leave dentures looking yellow and dingy. This is often due to the items that a denture wearer puts in his mouth on a regular basis. Getting denture stains clean can be a chore, but it is manageable with some time and effort. If daily denture care does not help remove yellow stains, try alternative methods with a few common household products. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Remove the dentures from your mouth and inspect them for discoloration or food particles that may be stuck in the dentures.
2. Pick up a toothbrush designed especially for denture care. These toothbrushes usually are shaped differently than other brushes, with an angle to the handle and sometimes bristles on both sides of the brush.
3. Place toothpaste designed for dentures onto the toothbrush and gently scrub the dentures. Rinse the dentures in cool water when the task is complete.
4. Fill a bowl with 1 cup of white vinegar and 1 cup of warm water.
5. Place the dentures in the vinegar and water solution and allow the dentures to soak. This will help remove any yellow buildup. Allow the dentures to soak for at least 30 minutes.
6. Rinse the dentures in warm water and pat dry with a soft towel. Inspect the dentures to see if the yellow coloring has been removed.
7. Empty and rinse the bowl that contained the water and vinegar solution. Place 1/2 cup of bleach and 5 cups of water into the bowl.
8. Place the dentures into the water and bleach mixture and allow them to sit in the solution for up to 30 minutes.
9. Remove the dentures from the water and bleach mixture and rinse them off well.
10. Scrub the dentures with the denture toothpaste and brush one more time. Rinse the dentures in warm water.
11. Pat the dentures dry and inspect them. The yellow coloring should have faded away.
