Vacation In Biloxi Mississippi

Biloxi casinos feature coastal golf courses.

Though New Orleans is the urban area that comes to mind at the mention of Hurricane Katrina, the Mississippi Coast also suffered almost total devastation. In Biloxi, a city of seaside casinos, many casinos that float or stand on stilts in the Gulf were blown inland, destroying not only the business, but also the residences on the shoreline. Since August 2005, the state government has received over $600 million of recovery to rebuild ports, highways and businesses, according to MSNBC. In Biloxi, many of the casino hotels have been restored.

Instructions

1. Make travel arrangements. To fly to Biloxi, Delta Air Lines, US Airways, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, AirTran Airways, Branson AirExpress and Vision Airlines operate direct flights to eight destinations and connecting flights to other national and international destinations.

2. Decide which area of Biloxi in which you would like to stay. Hotels and resorts on the waterfront are more expensive and typically include more amenities. There are more than 50 hotels and motels in the Gulfport/Biloxi metro area, ranging from six-room guest houses to mid-range chain hotels to casino resorts. If you plan to visit the casinos in the evening, one of the casino hotels may be your best option. Choose a hotel and make a reservation.

3. Check the performance schedules at the casinos. The Beau Rivage, Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, and IP Casino Resort Spa all have theaters at their venues. Reserve tickets for performances that interest you.

4. Schedule a tee time if you are a golfer. The Beau Rivage, Grand Biloxi Casino and Palace Casino Resort all feature golf courses with the Gulf Coast serving as a scenic backdrop.

5. Sample the seafood. If you are traveling in September, check out the Biloxi Seafood Festival, which was named one of the top 20 fall events by the Southeast Tourism Society. Otherwise, visit a seafood restaurant on the waterfront. Ask if it serves fresh catch or frozen before you are seated.

Reserve a trip on a fishing charter and catch dinner yourself, if you are an adventurous traveler who is comfortable on boats.

6. Visit one of the Gulf Coast beaches. Take the one-hour ferry ride from the Gulfport Small Craft Harbor to Ship Island, which is protected as part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore. There are beaches for swimming and surfing on the island as well as opportunities for dolphin sightings on the ferry ride over.
