Make Luau Baby Shower Centerpieces

Use flowers and tropical fruit to create a luau centerpiece for your baby shower.

As you plan your baby shower, pick non-traditional themes to make it a celebration to remember. Hawaiian luaus conjure up images of warm beaches, pigs roasting over a fire, tiki drinks and delicious fruits native to the island. Create an island party atmosphere by infusing your shower's decor with Hawaiian-inspired items. Use tropical fruit, silk flowers and palm fronds to make centerpieces for your luau baby shower. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Lay three to four plastic or silk palm fronds on the center of the table.

2. Place a medium-size wood bowl in the center of the palm fronds.

3. Place a fresh pineapple in the bowl. Arrange other tropical fruits, such as kiwi, mangoes, star fruit, dragon fruit, oranges and bananas around the pineapple. Form a small mound around the pineapple but leave the top visible.

4. Place silk hibiscus flowers around the edge of the bowl. Stick the ends of the flowers between the fruit to hold them in place.

5. Cut two, 6-inch-long triangles out of construction paper. Use bright colors, like electric blue, hot pink or neon green.

6. Place the triangles in front of you so that they look like flags. Write "Welcome Baby" or another message on one of the pieces. This will be the front piece of your flag.

7. Tape a 1/8-inch-thick wood dowel to the back of the front piece.

8. Apply rubber cement to the edges of the back piece. Align the pieces together and press firmly so the glue adheres quickly and conceals the wood dowel.

9. Stick the flag into the bowl next to the pineapple once the glue has dried.

10. Spread silk flower leis on the table for your guest to wear during the shower.
