Making silk box invitations can add a whimsical look and feel to inviting guests to your wedding celebration or any other special occasion. You can add drama and character to your wedding invitation if you are able to follow the simple steps in making your own silk box invitations.
Instructions
1. Measure the outside dimension of the lid of the box. You can also place the lid upside down on the back of the decorative paper you'll be using to decorate the box. While the box is upside down on the paper, use a pencil to trace the outside dimension around the lid of the box. You may want to allow for an extra quarter of an inch when tracing the box lid to make sure that you have enough extra paper to cover the lid completely.
2. Cut the paper. Using paper scissors or a paper cutter, cut on the lines you traced or measured.
3. Apply adhesive. Apply double-sided tape, paper glue or glue dots to the backside of the decorative paper. Apply it to the lid of the box making sure that it is properly lined up along the edges, at the top portion and the lip of the box. Smooth out the paper to remove air pockets and wrinkles that may appear as you attach the decorative paper. Fold the paper over the corners of the lid similar to how you would wrap a gift box with wrapping paper.
4. Cut ribbon. Cut a piece of ribbon so that it fits around the lid of the invitation box. Apply glue dots to the bottom side of the ribbon and attach it around the sides of the lid to give them a finished look.
5. Add silk fabric. Measure enough silk fabric to cover the bottom and sides of the invitation box. Place the box on top of the silk fabric and use the glue dots or double-sided tape to apply the silk fabric to the box. Bring the fabric up and over into the inside of the box, folding it to make the fabric taut and glue in place---wrapping it similar to wrapping a gift box.
6. Apply the printed invitation to the bottom of the inside of the box. You can apply it with paper glue or glue dots so it securely fits in the bottom of the box when it's open.
7. Apply the finishing touches to your handmade silk box invitation by putting the desired embellishments, glass beads and glitters. You can add additional decorations to the outside of your invitation box.
