Make Favors For A 65th Birthday Party

Celebrating a 65th birthday typically involves a party for everyone near and dear to the birthday celebrant. Planning a party often involves small details, such as decorations, food and party favors. Choose what sort of favors you'd like to give guests for participating in the birthday celebration, and then make enough for everyone on the guest list. Make favors that will have a purpose and complement the party and the birthday celebrant. Candles are useful items that many people may enjoy, as are chocolate suckers. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Chocolate Suckers

1. Melt the chocolate using the microwave or a double boiler. Using the microwave may be easier, particularly if this is your first time. Melt 1 lb. of chocolate at a time in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat the chocolate at half-power for one minute. Stir the chocolate and repeat until the chocolate is liquid.

2. Spoon the chocolate into molds shaped as the numbers "6" and "5" or into specially made "65" molds. The chocolate should be hot and have a syrup-like consistency. Gently tap the molds against the table or countertop to level the chocolate and remove air bubbles. Insert the stick and roll it so it so the top part is completely coated in chocolate.

3. Place the molds in the freezer for about 15 to 20 minutes, making sure they are flat. Flip the molds upside-down on the counter or table and gently tap the molds, which should result in the chocolates falling out. Tap any cavities where the chocolate has not fallen out.

4. Wrap clear or slightly tinted cellophane around the suckers, securing it in place with ribbon. For separate "6" and "5" suckers, lay them on the table with the sticks crossing each other so the suckers look like "65." Tie a ribbon around the sticks to keep them in this position. Add any tags with a phrase such as "thank you" or "Gerdie's 65th birthday" or the phrase of your choice.

Gel Candles

5. Place the zinc wick--about three inches longer than your container--in the center of your glass container using a dot of hot glue. Set it to the side, allowing it to dry.

6. Cut the gel wax into small pieces and melt them at 200 degrees Fahrenheit using a stainless-steel pot. Avoid temperatures reaching 221 degrees or higher. Add essential oil when the wax is completely melted.

7. Warm the glass containers in a preheated oven at 175 degrees Fahrenheit for 10 minutes before pouring. Dip decorative items, such as glitter or charms that say "65" and "happy birthday" in the hot wax, then place them in the glass containers.

8. Pull the wick up, curling the end around a pencil to keep it straight. Slowly pour the hot wax into the glass container. Allow the gel to cool and trim the wick.
