Inexpensive Centerpiece Ideas For A Banquet

For an inexpensive floral centerpiece, use colorful carnations.

A centerpiece for a banquet should be special enough to befit the grand occasion, but does not necessarily have to be elaborate or expensive. You can create or compile an attractive centerpiece from inexpensive materials and objects that you already have around the home.

Color Theme

If you pick just one or two colors as the theme for your banquet table, you can paint every item in your centerpiece the same color to create an effective monotone look. A collection of otherwise unmatched, inexpensive objects, such as artificial flowers, pine cones or ornaments and trinkets with a common theme can be painted the same color and become a cohesive and artistic collection. Spray paint will easily cover any surface. Use several coats to make sure the previous color of the object does not show through. Paint a cheap plastic tray or shallow dish with the same color and arrange the objects on it with some candles and place it in the center of the banquet table, or use several arrangements along the table. For a children's party banquet you could use some old plastic toys, figures, toy cars and Lego pieces. For a wedding banquet, choose bells, wedding cake ornaments and toy rings and paint them to match the wedding colors.

Origami

Use origami shapes to make an unusual, inexpensive centerpiece inexpensively. The only material you need is paper. If you do not know do origami, there are video tutorials online that can teach you some basic shapes, like the classic crane, which is symbolic of peace. You could make many small, identical origami shapes in one or many colors or patterns of paper and scatter them along the center of the table. A row of origami cranes arranged in a rainbow color pattern from one end of the table to the other can be strung together with a thin thread to make an unusual paper garland. You could use extra large sheets of paper to make giant origami shapes for the center of the table-you could make a different creature or type of flower for each table.

Holiday Ornaments

There are many types of holiday ornaments designed for trees that can be used for a banquet centerpiece at any time of the year. If you chose generic ornaments like baubles, stars and strings of lights, they will be festive during any season and can be bought inexpensively, especially immediately following the holiday season. You could fill a selection of plain glass vases with clear baubles and a string of white lights, or arrange the ornaments around white candles on top of a large mirror. Use several strings of holiday lights and either form a nest shape in the center of the table, or lay them all out straight along the middle from one end of the table to the other.

Inexpensive Floral Centerpieces

If you want to have traditional floral centerpieces, you have many options that will work within a small budget. You could make beautiful flowers out of crepe paper or tissue paper. If you want real flowers, stick with an inexpensive flower such as carnations, and use objects you already have or could easily find at yard sales and flea markets as vases. You can cover tin cans with fabric, recycle and spray paint wine bottles or hunt for inexpensive milk glass vases at flea markets.
