Make Luau Invitations

Vintage luau image

Throwing a Hawaiian luau means fire pits, grass skirts and plenty of poi for everyone. A great way to celebrate the warmer weather of summer, whether you live ocean-side or not, a Luau is a great excuse to spend time outside with the ones you love. Your decorations will all be very Hawaiian and so should your luau invitation. Making a creative luau invitation is easy with some desktop publishing software and your own unique style. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Gather your images. Pineapples, hula girls, palm trees and anything that says "Hawaiian" can be used in your luau invitation. You can find photos and clip art in your desktop publishing software or download from online resources.

2. Finalize all your party information. Make sure you know the day, date and time of your event as well as any theme related information you want to share. Include if you want people to dress in Hawaiian gear, comment on any games or contests and include an RSVP phone number with a deadline date.

3. Open your half-fold card template for your invitation blanks. If your software doesn't have a matching size for your card, you can often download a template from the card blank manufacturer.

4. Create the invitation front. Insert your photo or clip art on the card front as well as some text stating, "You're Invited to a Luau!" Be sure your images are high resolution so that they appear clear and crisp when you print your invitations.

5. Type in the text. Double check your spellings and type in all the necessary party information on the inside of the card. Use a nice luau-related graphic to add more visual interest here as well as on the cover.

6. Add a small piece of clip art on the back page of the card for some extra detail. A cute hula girl or a surfer will put a smile on your guests' faces. Add the same graphic to the front of your mailing envelopes under the return address label to attract attention in the stack of mail.

7. Print a sample invitation on plain paper to check your set up and spelling before printing on your good card blanks. Practice your loading now as well to be sure you reload the paper properly to get the inside printed on your card.

8. Use the high quality or "Best" setting on your printer and select the correct paper type to print your cards. Print out one for a final check and you are on your way.
