Graduation is an exciting time for a college student. Graduates have great pride in having successfully completed college and being deemed ready for the real world of jobs and a career. Celebrating this achievement deserves a well-planned party that honors the graduate and caters to the guests to make it memorable occasion.

1. Determine the kind of party you want for the recent graduate. Do you want an intimate celebration with close family or do you want to go all out and invite everyone you know? Deciding the guest list and the number of invitees will guide you on organize the food and decorations.

Plan a well-balanced menu that caters to every guest. While it is true you cannot please everyone, keep in mind the tastes and preferences of people you know well. For example, have some vegetarian dishes, some seafood, and some lamb and poultry. This will give your menu variety and lend great taste and flavor to your dishes.
A barbecue is a good idea for a college graduation party. You can have a variety of meats and even marinate them in advance. A brunch is also appropriate for a graduation party. You can have breakfast and light lunch foods, fresh fruit, and desserts.
Try to make your food in the oven so you can attend to other preparations while the food is cooking. Casseroles and pies are hearty dishes that look good on a party table and are filling, too.
3. Make your own or order one from the bakery. A cake is a must for a college graduation party. If you plan on having a small cake, make extra dessert to feed everyone.
You can even serve different flavors of ice cream--something everyone loves. Or make your own custom ice cream sundaes with different flavors of ice cream, nuts, and flavored syrups.
4. Plan a theme for your college graduation party and have the decorations and cutlery match it. It also makes it easier for you to shop for party supplies and lends uniformity to the arrangements. You can find tons of graduation-related party supplies. Go for a color-coordinated theme or a theme related to a character.
Decorate your party area with a giant graduate welcome sign. You can also put up pictures of the graduate depicting her from school through college to show her growth over time. Have a bulletin board or canvas for guests to write their messages for the graduate. If you have time to prepare in advance, you can record a video of the graduate's close friends and family remembering their best times with them.
Organize a scavenger hunt with clues relating to the graduate, if you have the space and time. Have a pinata stuffed with supplies that would be useful to a grad and her friends.

Use invitations related to the party theme or designed like a graduate scroll, rolled up with a ribbon. You can even print invitations online to keep them neat.
