Hurricane Glass Centerpieces Ideas

Save money as you create your own hurricane glass centerpiece for that special occasion. Hurricane glass centerpieces combine the simple, graceful curves of the container with the candles and flowers displayed. Their bottleneck design focuses the eye to the arrangement on top, while the wider base showcases the material below. Match the design to your occasion with your choice of flowers and base materials.

Frosted Glass

As most hurricane containers are clear glass, give yours more character and detail by frosting the glass. This process involves placing a stencil, leaf or tape over the glass and spraying the frost on. Theme the stencil for the centerpiece to occasions, such as wedding bells for the reception, hearts for Valentine's Day or shamrocks for St. Pat's Day. Fill the base with iridescent glass beads, marbles or beaded pearls and add a taper candle.

Design Wrap

Theme the hurricane glass centerpiece to your occasion. Pick self-adhesive paper, the color of your celebration, and use a stencil to cut out a design. Designs may include angels for Christmas, ghosts for Halloween or flags for July Fourth. Attach the paper to the hurricane glass. Fill a Christmas display with poinsettia flowers surrounded by a wreath of holly, put wrapped candy into the Halloween glass and stick pinwheels, small flags on sticks and red carnations in a patriotic centerpiece.

Beach

For a wedding at the beach, use sand, shells, small toy surfboards or canoes in your centerpiece. A large banana leaf inserted into the hurricane glass provides a tropical touch, while seashells give weight to the base. Add water and float a starfish or flip-flop candle on top.

Candy

Candy centerpieces work well in the hurricane vase. Group several hurricane vases together in the center of the table and fill each with different types of candy. For Valentine's Day include small wrapped chocolate hearts, small message hearts and wrapped chocolate kisses. For a child's birthday, use peanut butter cups, small bags of M&M's or Skittles. For Halloween, use candy corn, ghost pops or marshmallow shapes.
