Use the honeymoon destination as the theme for the shower.
A honeymoon shower is usually thrown in place of or in addition to a bridal shower and groom's shower. Instead of bringing general wedding gifts, guests bring things that relate specifically to the couple's honeymoon, whether it is contributions of cash to a travel fund or gifts that the couple can take on the road. A honeymoon shower is particularly effective for couples who are already established and do not need gifts for the house.
Bride and Groom Involvement
If you hold the shower early enough, you can turn it into a surprise for the bride and groom. Guests can donate money and the bride and groom can use it for their dream honeymoon, wherever it may be. Or, you can work with the bride and groom to create a honeymoon registry for a specific trip they have in mind. Like a gift registry, guests choose from items on the honeymoon, like hotel stays or parts of plane tickets, and pay for them online.
Invitations
Invitations are a crucial part of a honeymoon shower's success because they communicate to guests what type of gifts they should bring. If you would prefer that guests give cash gifts, include wording that says something along the lines of, "Please help us send the bridal couple on their dream honeymoon by purchasing a gift from of the honeymoon registry." Include the URL to the registry. If you would prefer to leave the option open for other types of gifts, add a sentence that mentions the location of the honeymoon and suggests that guests bring travel-related gifts.
Location
If you know the location of the bride and groom's honeymoon, use it as the theme for the shower. Choose a theme that fits with the destination: a beach for an island vacation or an ethnic restaurant for an international trip. A honeymoon-themed location can give a real sense of the trip and build excitement for the bride and groom. Apply the theme to the decorations as well: for a Hawaiian shower, for example, use palm fronds and garlands of flowers and give out leis to the guests.
Activities
Without a traditional gift opening, a honeymoon shower may need additional activities. If games are your thing, plan a few that are suitable for couples, like trivia games about the honeymoon destination. You can do a traditional bride and groom question-and-answer game, where each person answers the same questions about the other and gets points for right answers. Include the guests in the fun by having them play along and fill out their own answer sheet, then tallying the correct answer. Plan the shower like a big party, and invite family and friends so it becomes a prewedding event for everyone to meet each other.
