Make Creative Baby Shower Favors

Don't give baby-related favors unless all your shower guests can use them.

Baby shower favors are often very creative and they need not be expensive. If you're short on cash, or if you're expecting many guests, you can give cleverly-decorated candy or baked goods as shower favors. Alternatively, you can present edible favors inside beautiful containers that your guests can also use later. Travel kits, small bags filled with makeup, or soap and bath salts can be hidden inside baby-themed packaging, such as paper "diapers." Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Goodie Bag

1. Buy a few yards of fabric in a pretty pastel or baby-themed pattern. Use a pair of crimping scissors to cut the fabric into 8- by 3 1/2-inch squares. Fold lengthwise, right sides together and sew up the sides. Trim the seams and turn the bag inside out.

2. Add decorations, such as baby buttons or plastic charms to the top of the bag, using craft glue.

3. Fill the bag with pastel lip gloss, a travel vial of baby powder, cologne or lotion, or opalescent nail polish.

4. Pin the bags closed with a large diaper pin.

Cake Pops

5. Buy a few dozen flesh-colored cake pops or large marshmallows. Using a juicy, good-quality edible marker, lightly draw baby faces on the pops or marshmallows. Be sure to paint a variety of expressions.

Practice for awhile before painting the pops so that you are accustomed to using the markers without waste.

6. Attach lollipop sticks to the underside of the marshmallows, if you're using marshmallow pops. Allow the drawings to dry.

7. Press white mini-cupcake holders through the center of the pop. Push the paper up around the base of the candy to form a baby "bib." Alternatively, buy paper doilies and cut small circles to use as "bibs." Be sure to allow enough solid paper in the center to hold the bib in place when pushed up the stick.

8. Tie a small pastel ribbon tightly around the bottom of the pop and finish in a bow.

Cabbage Patch

9. Buy ceramic bowls or coffee mugs shaped like leaves, preferably like cabbage leaves.

10. Fill the bowls or mugs with whole coffee beans or small, dark chocolate candies.

11. Set a small plastic baby favor in the center of each. You can find these at most craft stores.

12. Surround the baby favor with a ring of small, green candies to represent cabbage plants.
