Ideas For Cupcake Centerpieces

Consider creating cupcake centerpieces for your next party or event. You can easily create cupcake centerpieces for your wedding reception or cupcake bouquets to decorate tables at a birthday party. For a quick and easy cupcake centerpiece, line a shaped cake pan to fit the party's theme with cupcakes decorated to match.

Wedding Cupcake Centerpiece

You can create your own edible wedding reception centerpieces with cupcakes stacked on a two- or three-tiered tray, one for each table or as a large display as a main centerpiece in the room. Decorate your cupcakes with fluffy white icing and surround them with colorful fresh flower blossoms on each tier. You can purchase cupcake tiers that hold from 12 to 300 cupcakes or you can make small tiers yourself with plates and terra cotta flower pots. Paint the pots white or cover them with organza or other fabric that coordinates with your wedding. Glue the pot upside down in the center of a large plate and glue the center of a small plate on top of the flower pot. You can use clear glass plates or cover inexpensive dollar store plates to match your décor. As an alternative, you can use cake boards and polystyrene cake dummies to create your tiers.

Cupcake Bouquet

Create small cupcake bouquet centerpieces with a flower pot decorated for the occasion and seven cupcakes covered with swirled icing. Fill the flower pot with floral foam to the rim so you'll have something to hold the cupcakes in place. Skewer your cupcakes in the bottom center with a floral pick or wooden skewer. Insert the other end of the skewer into the floral foam, beginning with the tallest cupcake skewer in the center. Add the other cupcakes at varying heights to simulate a rounded bouquet. You can cover the foam and fill in around the cupcakes with organza, tulle or ribbon for a festive centerpiece that is perfect for showers and birthday parties.

Shaped Centerpieces

Centerpieces made with cupcakes and shaped cake pans are perfect for a child's birthday party or a casual gathering; the style will change depending on how you decorate your cupcakes. You can find cake pans in a variety of shapes and sizes from hearts to teddy bears at your local craft store. You can cover the pan with decorative paper or leave them as is, depending on the party. Fill the inside of the pan with cupcakes decorated to match the occasion and place the pan in the center of your table.
