Instructions

1. Create a flameless torch. Use red, orange and yellow tissue paper to create fake flames. Fold these sheets into triangles. Stuff them in candle holder or in pre-made Tikki torch containers. Not only are these fake flames less expensive and easy to create, but they are also safe, as you don't have to keep a watchful eye on them during your luau.

2. Make your own lays. They are light to wear and festive, and they also come in a variety of colors so guests can can wear their colors. Create your own by using generic string. Use yarn or hemp for string alternatives. For adults, measure a string that is approximately 18 to 26 inches in length. Cut pieces of colored tissue paper and scrunch them around the string. Fasten the scrunched pieces with glue. Continue this pattern until you have filled the necklace, minus an inch or two. Tie the lay using this incomplete section.

3. Make homemade hula skirts. Measure your waist using yarn. Stretch the yarn so it sits comfortably around your waist. Add and extra 6 inches so you can tie the skirt later. Cut strands of your favorite color of streamers. Cut the length so that they are approximately an inch or so longer than knee length. Apply glue to the top of the streamer strands and attach them to the rope. Continue this pattern until the skirt covers your body. Tie in the back with the excess yarn to display your finished product.

4. Purchase a several coconuts. Using a knife, cut around the top part of each coconut and remove the lid. Using a carving knife, hollow out the coconut. Remove the fruit as if you were hollowing out a pumpkin. Clean the coconut so there are few strands or fruit chunks left behind. Cut small slits or holes into the wall of the coconut. Place several tea candles inside, and use the coconut as a mood-setting candle holder.
