Take A Vampire Tour In New Orleans

Take a Vampire Tour in New Orleans

So you are a vampire enthusiast. Perhaps you have garlic in your purse and holy water in your back pocket. Whether you have just a passing interest in the vampire legends or believe your neck is in constant danger, a vampire tour around New Orleans will make you a believer. Filled with both fact and fiction, there are several planned tours available for you to get a “taste” of what dark history the city holds. Made more famous by previous resident and well-known vampire author Anne Rice, New Orleans is the mecca for American vampire stories and fans. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Book a tour with the Haunted History Vampire Tour group. You can wander the darkened streets of New Orleans. Visit reputed vampire locations. Whether you believe in vampires or not, the dramatic journey will take you through a noted vampire tavern. You'll hear tales of the “casket girls” and stories of legendary vampire Jacques St Germaine. See the link in our Resources section to book this tour.

2. Freak yourself out by taking the New Orleans Vampire Tour that tells the “real” story of French Quarter blood suckers. You’ll get a terrific walk on the wild side, hearing stories of real vampire-like crimes. Walk through spooky vampire hang outs. Wear a turtleneck for your own peace of mind.

3. Visit Anne Rice’s house. After all, she is the queen of vampire literature. A tour of the Garden District in New Orleans will take you past the homes of its favorite author.

4. Visit the Lafayette Cemetery. The infamous character called Lestat kept his valuables entombed here. Get there by streetcar to put you in the mood for a fright. Get off at the Washington Avenue stop. Walk one block towards the river. Enter at the Washington Avenue gate.

5. Do it yourself. Start at the Ursuline Convent at 1100 Chartres Street in the French Quarter. Legend has it that the “casket girls” brought vampires into the convent. Many say that the thousands of blessed screws that hold the windows shut is testament to the paranormal goings-on.

6. Wander the city. Ask locals for stories and recommendations. You will find much about vampire lore by asking those in the know of the city.
