Paper drink umbrellas add a tropical touch to any drink.
Paper drink umbrellas are often added to fruity drinks or cocktails for a festive, exotic touch. The invention of the drink umbrella is unknown, although it has been suggested that its first introduction in America was through a chain of Polynesian-inspired restaurants called Don the Beachcomber, which is no longer in business. Although these umbrellas can be purchased at a craft store, they are very quick and simple to make. Whip up a batch of these cute drink additions for barbecues, holidays or kids parties.
Instructions
1. Remove a small triangle so the paper circle looks like this.
Trace the outline of the bottom of the soup can onto the craft paper with a pen or pencil, and cut it out. Cut out a small pie-shaped piece of the paper circle, about 1/8 of the circle.
2. Place a thin strip of craft glue onto one edge of the pie-shaped gap, and bring the other edge on top of the glue. The paper should now be cone-shaped. Place a small drop of glue on the inside tip of the paper cone, and insert the end of a wooden skewer or toothpick into the glue and through the top of the cone. Allow the glue on the paper umbrellas to dry thoroughly before using.
3. Insert the finished paper umbrellas into drinks or cocktails for an instant tropical touch.
