Shoot The Smith & Wesson 45 Mountain Gun

Practice safety when shooting the Smith and Wesson .45 Mountain Gun.

Since Smith and Wesson first began producing firearms in the mid 1800s, millions of enthusiasts, hunters and law enforcement officers have relied on S&W quality. Through the years, Smith and Wesson has played a major role in the development of modern firearms for both civilian and military use. The company continues this tradition with the .45 caliber model 629 Mountain Gun revolver. A well-balanced and easy-to-shoot revolver, the Mountain Gun is well suited for hunting as well as self defense. The Mountain Gun is so named due to its lighter weight design, making it a good choice for backwoods or mountain carry.

Instructions

1. Practice safety at all times when handling the Smith and Wesson .45 Mountain Gun revolver. Put on a pair of safety glasses and make sure the revolver is unloaded by opening the cylinder and inspecting. Make sure the shooting lane is properly situated with an appropriate back stop capable of absorbing and stopping a .45 round.

2. Place the Mountain Gun on a sturdy work surface or table located near the shooting lane. Open a box of .45 caliber ammunition that is matched to the revolver. Take particular note here that the ammunition matches the gun exactly. Refer to the caliber markings on the gun as well as the manufacturer's information provided with the gun.

3. Point the gun barrel down toward the ground and open the cylinder of the gun. Insert six .45 caliber rounds of ammunition in holes of the cylinder with the bullet end down.

4. Carefully close the cylinder, making sure that it locks into place in the frame of the pistol. Lay the pistol down on the work surface so it is pointed in a safe direction. Put on hearing protection such as ear plugs or ear protectors.

5. Check the firing lane or range to ensure no one is between you and the target or behind the target. Attach a target to the pulley system or pin in place on a target holder depending on the range set up. Loudly announce that you are "preparing to shoot" or "the range is hot. "

6. Grip the Mountain Gun revolver with your dominant hand. The V between your thumb and forefinger should be near the top of the grip. Hold the gun comfortably so that the forefinger can access the trigger for firing. Bring your other hand up to steady your firing hand. Wrap the second hand around the fingers of the dominant hand. The thumb of the second hand should be positioned on the base knuckle of the firing hand.

7. Raise the Mountain Gun up toward the target. Find the target in the window, or between the two sights on the top rear of the gun. Slowly raise the end of the barrel until the front sight can be seen in the rear window. The top of the front sight should be placed just below the center of the target while it is still visible in the rear sight window.

8. Place the forefinger of the shooting hand on the trigger and gently squeeze the trigger to fire the gun. Do not pull or jerk on the trigger. Use a squeezing motion with your shooting hand and trigger finger to fire the gun.
