Set A Tea Table

Make your tea table reflect your inimitable style.

A tea party conjures images of refined guests gathered for aromatic tea, light and delectable refreshments and sparkling conversation. Make your guests feel honored by seating them at a table set with formal place settings, adding plenty of refreshments, condiments and, of course, your favorite teas. A gracious tea table will put your guests at ease and communicate your sense of style. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Decorate your tea table with fresh flowers.

Drape a tablecloth over the tea table. Use a large teapot to arrange fresh flowers for a centerpiece, selecting the flowers to complement your color scheme or to represent the season. Arrange a bouquet of sweet violets, for example, in early spring.

2. Add sliced lemons to finger bowls.

Place a luncheon plate in the center of the setting, with a place card on the plate. Arrange a napkin and flatware on the left side of the plate. Lay a butter or table knife to the right of the plate, with the blade facing inward. Set a teaspoon to the right of the knife.

Place a teacup and saucer to the right of the spoon, with the teacup handle facing out. Provide each guest with a clear glass finger bowl filled with fresh water and a lemon slice placed above the plate.

3. Place bowls of Devonshire -- clotted -- cream and strawberry jam around the table for a cream tea. Lay small spoons beside the clotted cream and jam bowls. Set bowls of cream and jam around the table within easy reach of all your guests. Place lemons, milk and sugar in clear glass bowls around the table.
