The "sweet 16" party is a special time in a girl's life. It bridges the gap between girl and woman. The tradition is for the girl to light 16 candles, counting 16 people who mean a lot to her. Phantom of the Opera
Host a formal party for your sweet 16, and fashion it after the "Phantom of the Opera." Choose regal colors, such as black, and gold. Dress her in all white, so she stands out in photos. Make it a masquerade party, with everyone wearing masks, and no one reveals who they are until the party ends. Rent a party place, hire a DJ and a caterer. Make sure the cake is decorated in the colors or theme of the party, as are the decorations and balloons. Make sure the invitations state this is a formal party. This will be a pre-prom experience the teens will not forget for a long time.
Black Light Party
Have a dance party. Keep the room or house completely dark and only use black lights. Ask the guests to wear white, so they glow in the dark, and hand out glow sticks. Use glow paint for the decorations. Add sparklers to the candles on the cake, for an added sparkle. Put a light under the punch bowl to make it glow. Hire a DJ, perhaps even a fellow high school student, and dance the night away.
Hawaiian Luau
Light some tiki torches, hand out leis to wear, and have a hog roast. This is a casual party with a Hawaiian theme. Have your guests wear grass skirts and Hawaiian shirts, shorts or anything that has a beach party feel. Play Hawaiian music during dinner, then rock out for the evening. Put a piece of pineapple into every punch glass. Small drink umbrellas are fun in the glasses, too. Include inflatable palm trees to the decorations, and if possible, add some sand to the area to give a beach feel to things. An after-dark bonfire adds an extra touch.
