Kid'S Activities Near Honolulu

Tour Honolulu by taking the kids to family-friendly spots.


Honolulu is on the island of Oahu and is the epicenter of the Hawaiian islands. The city is home to many monuments, beautiful beaches and lively parks. Aside from frolicking at the beach, many fun and educational activities are also available for kids in sunny Honolulu. See exotic animals or learn about the traditions and cultures of the islands by visiting the family-friendly attractions in the area.


Honolulu Zoo


Visit the Honolulu Zoo and participate in guided tours and educational activities for kids. The zoo is ideally located near other attractions like Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach. Enjoy picnicking on zoo grounds and observing exotic species such as the Sumatran tiger, white handed gibbons, black lemur, Indian elephant, Asian giant river turtle and Burmese python. Make reservations at least a week in advance to experience Snooze at the Zoo, an overnight event where guests can view what the creatures are up to after dark and spend the night camping at the park. The event includes a buffet dinner, guided tours and eating smores around a campfire.


Wet and Wild Waterpark


The 29-acre Wet and Wild Waterpark is located in Kapolei, about half an hour away from Honolulu. The park has more than 25 thrill rides and attractions for the entire family, such as Keiki Kove, Surfsliders, Kapolei Kooler and Tornado. The Tornado ride catapults guests through a tunnel and down into a splash swimming pool. Riders can cool off at the Water World area filled with water slides, fountains and a 400,000-gallon wave pool.


Waikiki Aquarium


Visit the Waikiki Aquarium and learn about the wonders of Hawaii's aquatic life. The aquarium has six exhibit areas, including the Hawaiian Monk Seal, Galleries at the Aquarium, Edge of the Reef and the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands exhibit. Don't miss the Edge of the Reef, a 7,500-gallon outdoor display that replicates Hawaiian shoreline. View various types of colorful fish and five different types of Hawaiian reef. The Waikiki Aquarium hosts a variety of family programs, including weekly after-school events. The program is free with zoo admission and offers activities like Stories by the Sea and Critter Encounters


Children's Discovery Center


The Children's Discovery Center is just across from the Kakaako Waterfront Park in downtown Honolulu. The center has numerous educational exhibits and also provides learning programs for kids. Programs include toddler classes, reading, and art instructions. Toddler classes are designed for toddlers age 18 to 36 months. Kids will participate in activities like singing songs, engaging in interactive stories, creative projects and sensory activities. See the cultural exhibit of Your Rainbow World, where interactive displays of other cultures and countries can be found.
