Graduation Cap
When setting up a graduation party, you may find that pre-made decorations will take up a large portion of your budget. Make graduation decorations yourself in order to save money. Whether the graduate is finishing elementary school, high school or college, homemade decorations are a fitting way to celebrate the occasion.
Graduation Caps Galore
The graduation cap is one of the most well-known images of the graduation experience. Because of this, they make appropriate decorations. Cut out graduation cap shapes and put them all over the party. You can do this by first finding a nice image of a graduation cap on the Internet (see Resources 1 for example). Enlarge it so it takes up a full sheet of paper when printed out. Cut out the graduation cap image.
Next, use this as a guide when recreating the shape. You can use colored construction paper to create multiple graduation cap decorations. Choose a color that represents the graduate. If he is graduating in a maroon cap and gown, try to find a construction paper color that matches that.
The graduation cap design can also be used when making the party invitations. Use a smaller version of the graduation cap image you printed off your computer. Fold a piece of paper and place the image on top of it. Cut around the outline while keeping a large portion uncut near the fold of the paper. When done, this should look like a graduation cap that opens up into a card. Write the details of the party on the inside of the cards and mail these out to everyone invited.
Using Graduate Pictures
While you're celebrating the achievement of the graduate, you are also celebrating him as a person. Because of this, pictures of the graduate can make appropriate graduation party decorations. Photo murals are often a big hit at these parties. Create a mural by covering a surface with pictures of the person of honor. Use a large frame or a small section of open wall. Cover the surface so no wall or frame backing is showing through. Use images that show the graduate throughout her life. Pictures of her as a kid are often a party favorite.
Another way to use pictures as a decoration is to create centerpieces. Cut out pictures of the graduate's face and affix them to the end of skewers with tape or glue. Stick these into flower pots and put them in the center of the tables at your party.
