Insiders Guide To Disney World

Walt Disney World is located outside of Orlando, Fla. There are four theme parks at Walt Disney World: the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom. Disney's two water parks are Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. There are also numerous hotels and restaurants, and a shopping and entertainment district known as Downtown Disney.

Single Rider Lines

No one wants to pay his or her hard-earned money to end up waiting in long lines in the heat. Fortunately, Disney understands that, and has taken steps to help minimize your wait. One way is to take advantage of the single rider lines. In single rider lines, available on Test Track and Mission:SPACE in Epcot and Expedition Everest in Disney's Animal Kingdom, Disney cast members fill any empty seats with single riders. You may not get to ride with your friends, but you'll make it through a lot faster.

Fastpass

Another way to cut down on your wait in line is by taking advantage of Fastpass. A list of Fastpass attractions is printed on your park map. Fastpass is simple---you swipe your ticket and are given a pass with a time to return to the attraction's special line. Disney cast members keep the Fastpass lines moving. Use your Fastpass wisely---you're allowed only one at a time. You might not want to use it for shows, because there's usually ample seating. Above the Fastpass kiosk will be posted the return time; make sure you don't overlap with dinner reservations. Also, check the ride wait time above the ride's entrance. If the wait time is acceptable, use your Fastpass elsewhere. As soon as you use your Fastpass or the time expires, you're able to get another one.

Characters

If you're traveling with children, expect to spend some time with the Disney characters. Many children are intimidated by the larger-than-life costumes and become very shy. Don't force your children to hug Mickey if they don't want to. Let children know in advance that the face characters (those without a mask, such as Cinderella) will talk with them, but the cartoon characters won't. Bring an autograph book and a thick pen---it's easier for the characters to hold. Two of the best places to meet characters are Mickey's Toontown Fair in the Magic Kingdom and Camp Minnie-Mickey at Disney's Animal Kingdom. The lines grow long quickly. Try either first thing in the morning, later in the evening or during a parade.

Shows

A day at Walt Disney World is fast-paced. Take a break by taking in a show. You'll not only be able to sit down for awhile, but you'll see world-class live entertainment or movies that will amaze you and make you laugh at the same time. Not only will you have a great time, you'll have a chance to re-energize.

Specialty Cruises

For a truly unforgettable experience and a chance to relax, consider taking a specialty cruise. Several options are available, including the opportunity to watch either the Wishes fireworks show or IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth from the water.
