Kids' Gift Bag Ideas

Fill gift bags with small toys and stickers to fit the theme of the party.

Many parents like to put together gift bags full of goodies for favors at a children's party. Because many kids have allergies or restricted diets, including things other than candy or food treats is often a good idea. There are many inexpensive, fun items that can fill a child's gift bag that both the kids and parents will appreciate. Does this Spark an idea?

Unusual 'Bags'

Choosing an unusual container to use as your goody bag adds a special touch to the gift or favor. Beach pails are fun for summer parties and can be filled with shovels, sunglasses, bubbles or pool toys. Flower pots filled with seed packets (to plant), flower and vegetable stickers, popcorn and lollipops give kids a rainy day project for later. Chinese takeout boxes filled with temporary tattoos, small action figures and Rice Krispies treats can be decorated before the party, or you can have the kids decorate them as a party activity.

Activity Bags

Gift bags filled with things that kids can use will keep children busy at the party. Fill a bag with no-mess art supplies such as crayons, stickers, colored pens and pencils, small journals and coloring books. Create a puzzle-themed bag and include small jigsaw puzzles, a book of word searches and mazes and small hand-held tile puzzles or a Rubik's Cube. For outdoor parties, give kids gift bags filled with juice boxes, a sports whistle, an inflatable beach ball and a squirt gun.

Gift Bags for Girls

For an all-girls party, make up gift bags especially for young ladies. Make a goody bag filled with hair clips, costume jewelry, lip-gloss and sparkly nail polishes for girls who enjoy playing dress-up. For a sleepover, give gift bags stuffed with bubble bath, eye masks, toothbrushes and glow-in-the-dark stickers. For girls who like playing with dolls, create bags with doll clothes, accessories and doll hairbrushes.

Gift Bags for Boys

Gift bags for boys can be tailored to follow the theme of the party. Make a pirate goody bag, sending the boys home with "pirate's loot" such as golden chocolate coins, a Jolly Roger pirate flag, Cap'n Crunch cereal, fake jewels and anything with a skull and crossbones printed on it. A sports-themed bag can be filled with trading cards, bubble gum, Nerf balls and a sports drink. For an outdoor party, create a bug-collecting gift bag. Fill it with a magnifying glass, a bug net and a small jar with a netted lid. Add some plastic bugs or bug stickers for a finishing touch.
