Learn hit a target with throwing knives.
Throwing knives can be used for many different purposes, including sports, combat, entertainment and art. If you want to use throwing knives, you must first perfect the technique. Properly throwing a knife requires a certain hold, a certain distance and a particular technique of throw. Throwing knives properly takes a lot of practice, but there are various methods that can get you started. You can purchase a good set of throwing knives at your local outdoor store or at various retailers online.
Instructions
1. Set a target up and stand approximately 10 feet away. This will allow you to easily hit the target from a close range.
2. Hold the throwing knife properly. Use the "hammer grip," the easiest method for holding a throwing knife. Place the knife handle in your dominant hand and hold it as you would a hammer. Keep your wrist stiff and place your thumb along the small side of the knife.
3. Stand with your right foot in back of you and your left foot in front. Reverse this if you are left-handed. Keep your feet about 2 feet apart at a 45-degree angle.
4. Bend your knees slightly to ensure good balance. Keep your body weight on the ball of the back foot.
5. Hold both of your arms out straight forward and point them toward the target, chest high.
6. Swing your right arm, or left if you are left-handed, up and toward the back of your body so the knife is just behind your head. Bring it forward in one fluid motion toward the target as if you are chopping something with your arm.
7. Shift your weight to your front foot but keep your right shoulder in place.
8. Let go of the knife when your right arm is about in line with your left arm, which should still be pointing toward the target. Quickly let go of the knife and allow your arm to swing through the throw.
