Kid'S Birthday Favor Ideas

Let kids have their pick of their favorite candies.

Birthday party favors are a thoughtful way to thank guests for attending and bringing a gift. However, party favors don't have to be goodie bags full of inexpensive trinkets. Parents can get kids in on the favor action by having them create their own take-home gifts during the party. Use the birthday party theme as your guide as you choose favors that the kids will appreciate and find useful. Does this Spark an idea?

Activity Favors

Having kids make their own favors helps parents focus their attention on an activity during the party. Plus, kids are sure to like their favors if they made them. Get some one-size-fits-all kids' T-shirts, and write "Dylan's 10th Birthday Party" on them. Supply the kids with fabric pens, glue, glitter, rhinestones and fabric paint, and let them decorate their shirts. They might choose to write their names on them or sign each other's shirts. Let kids take their homemade T-shirts home as a memory of the party.

Themed Favors

Give guests a gift to take home that will remind them of the birthday party theme. If you're hosting a princess birthday party for your little girl, give each girl a tiara to wear. If you're having a birthday party at a cooking school, a chef hat with each kid's name written on it is a favor he can use during the party and after. If your son wants a sports-themed party, send each guest home with a foam football or basketball or a whiffle ball set.

Candy Buffet

Set up a candy buffet, and let kids select their favorite sugary treats to take home. Purchase small cellophane bags or Chinese food take-out boxes, which can serve as the containers for the candy treats. Place the guest of honor's favorite candies in different containers and jars. Let the kids scoop out their favorite candy and add them to their treat basket. Write each kid's name on her personalized favor bag. If you're a baker, you can make cookies, candies and other desserts and add them to the buffet as well.

Picture Memory

Digital cameras and portable photo printers allow party hosts to share memories almost instantaneously. If you have this equipment, then send the kids home with a memory from the party. Purchase inexpensive plastic picture frames, and write "Piper's Birthday Party" on the bottom of the frame with a paint pen. Print out pictures of the guest of honor with each of her friends, and place them in the frames. Kids will have an instant memory of their birthday party fun.
