Use an inexpensive birthday party theme for your teenage son or daughter.
As your teenager gets older, it may be tough for you to affordably entertain his growing number of friends. Some party ideas such as a dinner at a fancy restaurant or a limo ride are entertaining, but can be quite costly for a large number of people. By using free or borrowed facilities or by keeping the theme simple, you can have both an enjoyable party and a low total cost. Does this Spark an idea?
Pool Party
A pool party is extremely inexpensive if you own your own pool. In that case, all you do is toss in a few pool toys, a net and a ball, and let the kids run wild. If you do not have a pool, you can ask neighbors who might be willing to let you have your party at their pool. Some community pools also have discounted rates for large groups that wish to use the pool for a day. For food, you can provide simple snacks like pretzels and popcorn, and the main course of grilled burgers and hot dogs.
Iron Chef Potluck
This party has a food-related theme that will cut down on costs for food. On the invitation make it clear that the party will be a cooking competition in which all guests must bring at least one dish. The party itself will involve the guests sampling the savory delights and voting on the ones they like the most. Depending on how many guests you have, you will probably end up with a large amount of food. This saves you from having to provide a main course for everybody, and it works well as a theme. Play some music from the show "Iron Chef," or some actual episodes in the background if you wish.
Movie Theme Party
A movie theme works well for an inexpensive party, but only if you make the cinema your own house as opposed to the local movie theater. Rent a few DVDs around a particular theme. For example, you can get a few slasher films for a horror movie-themed party, or some romantic comedies for a rom-com movie-themed party. Print out pictures of some of the stars or posters of the movies and provide some themed food. For the horror party, this food might include a blood red punch; for a rom-com theme, chocolate is always a winner.
Sports Party
For your sports-obsessed teenager, a trip to the local park or field works well as an inexpensive birthday party. Bringing a group of kids to a park or field will either be completely free or your community may charge a small rental fee. Bring some baseballs and gloves, Frisbees or any other equipment your guests may want to play. Your guests will tire themselves out after a few hours of playing, and then you can feed them with grilled burgers, hot dogs and a sports-themed cake.
