Kids Childrens Birthday Party Decorations & Themes

If your child loves dogs, make that the theme of his party.

A child's birthday party is more fun to plan when you choose a theme. A themed birthday party makes picking out decorations a snap, since all you have to do is find things such as plates, cups and balloons that match the theme. Themed parties are also more fun for children to attend, since the theme allows children to escape the everyday and usually leads to a lot of fun activities. Does this Spark an idea?

Favorite Animal Theme

Plenty of children have a favorite animal. If your child can't get enough of dogs or pigs, plan his next birthday party around that animal. Pin pictures of the animal to the wall as decoration and look for tableware that features the animal. Serve a birthday cake in the shape of the animal or have a pinata shaped like that animal.

Replace the "Pin the Tale on the Donkey" game with the animal of choice. If your child is an animal lover in general, consider hiring a petting zoo to come to the party. Older children may have fun visiting a riding stable and riding horses during the party.

Arty Party

Celebrate the budding artist in your child by throwing an arts and crafts themed party. Decide on what crafts you will have the children make before the party, such a tie dying t-shirts or decorating hats or canvas shoes with puffy paint. You may also want to have a table set up with markers, glue sticks and other craft supplies for children to play after they finish the main craft or if they don't want to do the main craft.

Circus Party

If your child talks about running off to join the circus, consider planning a circus themed party for him. Hire a clown or two to entertain guests, but keep in mind that some children may be scared of clowns. You could also distribute foam red noses and curly haired wigs for the guests to don themselves.

Serve cotton candy, popcorn and hot dogs. Decorate the party area so it looks like the inside of a circus tent. Hang streamers from the entrance and arrange chairs in a circle to imitate a circus ring. Hang brightly colored balloons on the chairs.

Space Party

Decorate your house so it looks like the party is taking place on a space ship. Stick removable, glow-in-the-dark star stickers on the ceiling and along the walls. Light the party with strings of Christmas lights. Serve a birthday cake in the shape of a spaceship or alien. Decorate cupcakes so they look like the surface of the moon. Glue two paper plates together, with the right sides facing in, and decorate them so they resemble UFOs.
