A luau can be a festive way to enjoy the hot summer months, and decorating for them can be half the fun. From grass skirts to leis, there are numerous decorations you can employ to create that tropical atmosphere for your next luau. One thing you may not think to use is margarita glasses, which not only serve as great drink holders, but centerpieces as well. So head to your local craft store and purchase a few simple items to add a cute centerpiece to your next luau celebration.
Add a Little Fruit
Spruce up your luau by throwing some limes and/or lemons into the margarita glasses to create a festive centerpiece. Place three whole ones or do slices, allowing your guests the option of adding them to their drinks. For a child's luau, you can add lime wedge gummy slices, which can be found at most general food stores.
Create a Margarita Station
For a fun and interactive centerpiece, have three margarita glasses lined up in the center of your table. In the first you will want to have margarita salt for guests to dip the rim of their glasses in. In the next glass, have lime wedges for guests to squeeze into their drinks or garnish them with. Fill the final glass with paper umbrellas, to add a little flair to guest's drinks. Add a pitcher of your favorite margarita mix and your guests have an interactive luau centerpiece that is both functional and festive.
Let There Be Light
To create a fun look for any night-time luau, add some candlelight to your margarita centerpieces. Simply fill your glasses to about half an inch below the rim, then add a couple of floating tea lights to create a lovely glow. Floating tea lights can be found at your local craft store and are relatively cheap, so try out this technique and give your luau a little ambiance.
Throw in Flowers
Another festive idea you can try is putting floral arrangements in your margarita glasses. You can do this a variety of ways depending on your preference. Fill your margarita glass with water till it is just below the rim and add blossoms to create a serene floral presentation. You can even opt to add a floating tea light along with your floating blossoms. Try arranging 3 or 4 flower blossoms in your glass, creating a floral arrangement that bursts from the center of the table. Stick with tropical flowers, such as orchids, in keeping with the luau theme, and either use fake or real depending on what you prefer and can afford. If you have leis at your luau fill your glasses with those to save a little on décor.
