Mix Crab & Shrimp

Mix shrimp and crab for a hot dip or a southern boil.

Crab meat offers a sweet flavor and juicy consistency, while shrimp provides a crunchy texture and slightly fishy taste. The textures and flavors of crab and shrimp pair well together and are mixed to create a number of delectable dishes. You can combine both types of shellfish to create an appetizer or entree with little preparation for a mixed seafood dish that offers a taste of the ocean. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

Shrimp/Crab Boil

1. Bring 6 quarts of water to a boil in a tall pot on high heat. Add salt and pepper to taste and seasoning or spices, if desired.

2. Add about 3 pounds of red-skinned potatoes and boil them for 15 minutes.

3. Cut 1 pound of smoked sausage such as kielbasa or bratwurst into 2-inch wide pieces. Cut six cobs of sweet corn in half. Add the sausage and corn to the pot and boil for 10 minutes.

4. Remove the potatoes, sausage and corn from the boiling water and place the ingredients in a colander to drain the excess water. Plate the ingredients.

5. Add 1 pound of peeled and deveined shrimp, and 1 pound of crab legs to the pot. Boil the seafood for three to five minutes until the shrimp turns pink.

6. Pour the shrimp and crab legs into a colander to drain the water. Plate the seafood with the rest of the ingredients and serve with drawn butter.

Hot Seafood Dip

7. Preheat you oven to 400 degrees F. Soften 8 ounces of cream cheese at room temperature for about 10 minutes.

8. Place the cream cheese in a mixing bowl. Add 1 tbsp. of Worcestershire sauce and 1 tsp. of hot pepper sauce to the mixing bowl.

9. Mince one clove of garlic and chop 2 tbsp. of chives. Add the vegetables to the mixing bowl. Add 2 tbsp. of dried dill and 1 tbsp. of fresh lemon juice.

10. Blend the ingredients in the mixing bowl with a hand mixer on a medium setting until a smooth consistency forms.

11. Coat a skillet with 1 tbsp. of olive oil. Heat the oil on medium heat.

12. Devein and peel 1 cup of shrimp. Cut the shrimp into 1/4-inch pieces. Drain 1 cup of crab meat. Add the shrimp and crab meat to the mixing bowl. Fold the seafood into the mixture using a spatula.

13. Pour the mixture into a round or oval ramekin. Grate Parmesan cheese over the top of the mixture. Place the ramekin in the oven. Bake the shrimp and crab dip for about 20 minutes. Serve the dip hot with crackers, tortilla chips or crostini.
