Weddings are a celebration of two lives being united. Incorporating activities or themes that reflect on the couple will make the wedding ceremony personalized and fun for all involved. Forget the cookie-cutter ceremony standards and try adding a few surprises that incorporates the guests, the bridal party and family. The additions to the ceremony will be the talk of the reception, and guests will remember them for years to come.
Involve Others
Readings of Scripture, poetry and heritage-based customs are common during wedding ceremonies. Spice up the presentation by giving the honor to someone other than the ceremony officiate. Ask a grandparent to read the history of wedding customs from the country where their relatives migrated. Ask the members of the bridal party to step forward and each recite a line to complete a poem. If it is a whimsical piece, ask them to add hand gestures or movements. Rather than hiring a soloist, ask teenage guests that are involved in their school or church choirs to assemble at the front of the guests and sing.
Surprise the Guests
The maid of honor or best man can coordinate with the bridal party for a small ceremony surprise. Have each girl hide a tiny bottle of bubbles under her bouquet, and each man hide a bottle in his jacket, during the wedding ceremony. Just as the ceremonial kiss starts, have them begin blowing bubbles. The bride, groom and guests won't expect the scene, and the couple will laugh. Continue blowing bubbles as the couple is announced and they start the recessional.
Make an Entrance
Start the ceremony off in a nontraditional way to keep your guest's focus. Have the bridesmaids and groomsmen enter from separate entrances, and join halfway to the alter. Choose a nontraditional song for the processional, or take a long winding route to the alter past the parents and incorporate a quick hug. The men can high-five the groom as they approach the alter. If the couple is daring, the bridal party could form a conga line down the aisle, followed by a bride who knows add a little groove to her step.
