Organize and preplan details to host a successful party.
Whether you are hosting a party for toddlers, or an adult dance party, a lot of work goes into planning and organizing the soiree of the century. As the host, you are responsible for timely execution of every detail to make the event a success. Fortunately, organizing a party is not as hard as it seems. With a little preplanning, you can take the stress out of the project and arrange a successful party while having fun every step of the way. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Write a list of needed party supplies on paper, such as decorations, tables, chairs, cutlery, crockery and more. For a child's birthday party, include gifts for games and party favors. For an adult party, include a stereo system, lighting equipment, strobe light and fog machine (for a dance party) and other essentials. Number each item clearly.
2. Create or purchase invitations according to the theme, and send them three weeks in advance so guests can appropriately plan. Use the standard size 5-by-7-inch cardpaper in white or the theme color for each card, or alternate the size according to your taste. Depending on personal tastes, alternate postal invitations with phone calls or emails. Include the time, date, RSVP and theme so guests dress accordingly.
3. Arrange the furniture and establish a decoration scheme in accordance with your theme. Remove unnecessary items such as any large seating arrangement that takes plenty of space, but provides seating for only two or three. Instead, rent seats and place them near the edges of the room to provide lots of leg room, especially if it is a dance party.
4. Suspend balloons and streamers in theme colors both indoors and outdoors. Wind twinkling lights around outdoor plants that line the walkway, and hang strands from the ceiling of the party room for a decorative touch. Place scented candles on tables to add whimsical light and aroma. Paste other decorations such as posters, stickers or cutouts on strategic walls.
5. Place a buffet table in a corner of the party room and cover with a theme-colored cloth. Place a fresh floral arrangement in the center, and spread glitter for added dazzle. Specify to your caterer to deliver refreshments 30 minutes before guests arrive. Also, ensure a microwave and oven are available, just in case. Arrange the food on the table from the beginning, or set a time and serve dinner accordingly.
6. Arrange a table near the entrance and place baskets of theme-related party accents such as faux jewelry, hair accessories, hats, glasses and wardrobe enhancements for guests to wear upon arrival. Also place the party favors on the table and hand one to each guest at the end of the party.
7. Double-check all details on the eve of the party. Make sure everything is in place --- furniture, extra towels and fresh bathroom soap. Dress early for the party, as some guests arrive early, and welcome everyone warmly.
