Prepare a Fourth of July Tablescape

If you are hosting a Fourth of July get together you are probably thinking about who to invite, what kind of food to have, and keep everyone entertained. Another important thing to keep in mind are the decorations. Focus your decorating efforts on a Fourth of July tablescape that will provide for a festive celebration. This 4th of July fireworks themed tablescape is crafty, affordable and kid friendly. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Prepare a Fourth of July Fireworks Themed Tablescape

1. Cover your table with white butcher paper. You may want to tape the sides of the paper under the tabletop. Squirt some red paint on a Styrofoam plate and dab the plastic scouring pad in it. Do a test dab on an extra piece of butcher paper to get the excess paint off.

2. Dab the scouring pad on various points of the butcher paper covered table, creating fireworks. Once you have enough red fireworks, follow the same step to create blue fireworks. You may even overlap the two colors once the red fireworks have dried.

3. Create the tabletop fireworks display. Empty the potato chips you purchased into bowls to be eaten at the celebration. Sponge out the inside of each of the nine cans.

4. Wrap the potato chip can with one piece of red construction paper measuring approximately 9 X 10 inches and secure with glue.

5. Cut two strips of white construction paper approximately 10-inches long and 2 1/4 inches wide. Place glue on each end of the white strip and approximately 1 inch from the top of the can wrap your first piece of white construction paper on a diagonal. Do not worry about the overlap as this will be covered up later. Do the same thing with the second piece of white construction paper but place it 1-inch from the bottom of the can on a diagonal.

6. Now cut a piece of blue construction paper approximately 10-inches long and 2-inches wide. Wrap and glue this blue strip around the bottom of the can, overlapping part of the white. Now cut a strip of blue construction paper measuring 9-inches long by 4-inches wide. Glue this in place to cover the overlapping white diagonal strips.

7. Place plastic lid on top of can and puncture two small holes in the top. On the top of the lip place one end of a pipe cleaner in one hole and the other end in the other hole and pull through an even amount on each end. On the underside of the lid twist the ends of the pipe cleaner together, push up and flatten the ends of the pipe cleaner and secure to the underside of the lid with clear packing tape.

8. Follow these steps to make two more fireworks for this grouping. Group three completed fireworks together and tie a piece of twine around them. You may also choose to add metallic stars on a wire to the grouping. If decorating a large table you may want to have three groupings like this one.
