Plan A Surprise 60th Birthday Party

Throwing a surprise party can be even more fun than attending one.

A surprise birthday party can be as much fun to plan as it is to attend. Concocting schemes and plans meant to distract the guest of honor from the impending party requires a little imagination, creativity and restraint but is enjoyable. Compared with planning the surprise aspect, planning the party itself is a snap. With a little concentration and a few stealthy co-conspirators, you can plan a surprise 60th birthday party that will be talked about and remembered fondly for years to come. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Choose a date that is both convenient and inconspicuous. You will likely want to avoid holding the party on the guest of honor's actual birthday, as they will be more prone to expect a party then. Planning the party for after their actual birthday is a good way to throw them off the scent, just be sure to acknowledge the actual day so as not to arouse any unnecessary suspicion.

2. Select a location for the party. Be sure to choose a location that you will have a plausible reason to get the guest of honor to. If the location is not somewhere that you can come up with a good excuse to have the birthday boy visit, then the odds are good that your surprise will be blown.

3. Compile a guest list. If you are not local or do not know the names and addresses of the guest of honor's friends, then it may be necessary to recruit the help of someone who does. Resources like Facebook friend lists can be especially helpful in creating a guest list.

4. Devise a plan to occupy the guest of honor during the set up of the party and to get them to the surprise location. Enlist the help of family, friends or coworkers. The busier the birthday boy is during the set up, the less likely they are to stumble upon you mid decoration.

5. Plan a means of concealing the cars of the guests if the party will be held at a private residence or somewhere that their cars might stand out and give away your surprise. If there is a school nearby or some other facility with a sizable parking lot, consider having guests park their and then shuttle them back to the party site.

6. Make sure the guests know to keep the party a secret.

Put together invitations to the party. Make sure you emphasize the fact that this is a surprise party, so that nobody tips off the birthday girl. Have guests RSVP to someone that does not share a number with the guest of honor.

7. Choose your decorations and menu.

8. Decorate the party site the day of the party and get ready to yell "surprise!"
