Plan A December 60th Birthday Party

A 60th birthday party in December can be a good way to break up the winter months.

A 60th birthday is a good reason to throw a party, whether small and intimate or extravagant and formal. Planning the party requires some thought and advance preparation, as well as some practicality. A December 60th birthday party can be fun if planned properly, and the party will be one that guests will not forget. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Think of a good indoor location for the party. If you live in an area that gets icy, make sure the location of the party is accessible for all guests. Try not to throw the party too close to the holidays or your guests might be out of town.

2. Pick a theme, if any, for your party. Start thinking about ways to include the theme in all aspects of party planning. Throw a 1950s themed party, or include a winter holiday theme.

3. Write a guest list, including family members and close friends. Consider inviting people that the birthday boy has not seen since his youth to add an element of surprise.

4. Pick a date and send out invitations. Specify that the party is for a 60th birthday in the invitation wording, or create a large heading announcing the fact. Include information on the party theme and any dress requirements. Design and print the invitations yourself using a program such as Microsoft Publisher, or purchase some personalized invitations from a specialty card maker.

5. List some food ideas. Include the favorite food of the person whose birthday it is. Decide whether you will provide appetizers only or have a sit-down meal. Consider hearty winter foods such as soup, chili and stews for a formal meal party.

6. Choose the type of birthday cake you wish to have. Think of winter themes you could include on the cake. Consider decorative icing snowmen or glittery icing. Include the wording "Happy 60th Birthday" or something similar. Order your cake in advance to ensure availability on the date.

7. Come up with some party game ideas to entertain your guests. Have a dance contest or a karaoke competition with songs from the birthday girl's youth. If the party has a theme, hold a costume contest and have each guest vote for his favorite costume.

8. Decorate the party location with a birthday banner and balloons. Think of ideas for centerpieces such as winter flower arrangements or candles, and consider sprinkling some 60th birthday confetti on each table.
