Send announcements to let friends and family know you have graduated.
Unlike invitations, which request that recipients attend a graduation ceremony or party, graduation announcements are designed to notify recipients that the student is graduating. Most schools provide information for ordering sets of graduation announcements. If your school does not have this information, contact a printer to have personalized announcements made. The announcement typically contains the student's name, school's name and the degree or diploma the student is earning. When the announcements arrive, you will need to assemble them before mailing them to friends and family members.
Instructions
1. Set out all the pieces for the graduation announcements on a table. Start with the cards themselves on the left end, followed by the tissue paper, inner envelopes and outer envelopes as you work to the right. If your name is printed on a small card instead of on the announcement itself, that goes between the cards and the tissue paper.
2. Pick up an announcement. If you have name cards, insert the card into the provided slots in the announcement or set it on top of the announcement text.
3. Place a piece of tissue paper over the announcement text.
4. Put the announcement into the smaller inner envelope with the front of the announcement facing the envelope flap. If the announcement has a fold, the folded side goes in first.
5. Write the informal names of the recipients on the inner envelope. For example, the inner envelope might read, "Uncle Jack and Aunt Dorothy," "Grandma" or "Alex and Renee."
6. Place the inner envelope inside the outer envelope. The names you wrote on the inner envelope should face the flap side of the outer envelope. Seal the outer envelope.
7. Address the outer envelope with the formal names of the recipients; for example, "Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mason" or "Mrs. Amanda Pratt." Write the address on the lines below the names. Spell out all words in the address rather than using abbreviations.
8. Place a return address label on each envelope or write your return address by hand.
9. Repeat the process with the rest of the graduation announcements.
10. Take the announcements to the post office and have them weighed to see how much postage they require. Because the announcements are often printed on heavy card stock and have two envelopes, they might require additional postage.
