Ideas For A Tacky Party

Decorate with pink flamingo lawn ornaments.

Planning a party can be stressful. You must clean the house, purchase invitations, cook or cater fabulous appetizers and decorate with flawless taste. Take the pressure off of yourself and throw a tacky party instead. Since the party is supposed to be tasteless, you don't have to worry about impressing anyone. Instead you and your guests can focus on cutting loose and having fun. Does this Spark an idea?

Invitations

Let all your friends and family know about your tacky party by sending out invitations. But instead of spending time picking out the perfect invitation, use any left over invitation you have lying around the house. Maybe you have a couple baby shower invitations in a desk drawer or extra invitations left over from your child's birthday party. Use a black marker to cross out the baby shower or birthday party and fill in "tacky party." To be really tacky, use invitations that were originally sent to you by someone else. Cross out the original information and write in your own. If you don't have invitations lying around, buy invitations that have nothing to do with your party.

Decorations

Begin decorating for your tacky party by not cleaning your house. Leave a basket of laundry on the couch, your children's toys on the floor and the pile of dishes in the sink. Other decoration ideas include: duct-taping newspapers together to make table cloth; hanging sheets or blankets as curtains; using toilet paper in place of crepe streamers; building a beer can pyramid for a center piece; or using trash bags as slip covers for furniture. Or get out holiday decorations for Christmas, Halloween and Easter.

Party Foods

Don't bother preparing any fancy foods or washing any dishes for your tacky party. Just open a bag of chips, pork rinds or beef jerky and set it on a table. Put out cans of dip or salsa. Set out a block of uncut cheese and a sleeve of crackers. If you want to serve hot food, boil some hot dogs. For beverages, let your guest choose between off-brands sodas, the cheapest beer you can find or boxed wine. Only use paper plates, plastic cups and plastic silverware.

Games

Plan tacky games for your party guests. Play silly children's games, such as Pin the Tail on the Donkey, Twister or musical chairs. Hold a spitting contest, a spam-carving contest or a wet T-shirt contest. You must have tacky prizes for all your winners. Hand out rolls of toilet paper, plungers, plastic flowers, mismatched shoes, old key chains, torn books, cassette tapes, or mugs that say "World's Best Grandfather" or other sayings that don't apply to the occasion.
