Provide guests everything they need to make their own sundaes.
A wet bar at a baby shower cannot be enjoyed by the mother-to-be, but an ice cream sundae bar certainly can! Set up a do-it-yourself sundae station with everything needed for the guests to design their own creations. Use both traditional toppings, like chocolate syrup, and unexpected ones, like sweetened breakfast cereal. As a joke, set out a bowl of pickles so the mother-to-be can have them with her ice cream sundae -- some of the other guests might try the combination. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Wrap the bottom of each ice cream container with plastic wrap to keep the container from becoming soggy.
2. Set each container into the bottom of a punch bowl and pour ice around the container to come at least halfway up the sides of the ice cream carton.
Insert an ice cream scoop into each carton of ice cream.
3. Arrange the sundae dishes or parfait glasses next to the ice cream containers at the end of the table.
4. Place the whole bananas with a knife for cutting on the opposite side of the ice cream cartons from the sundae dishes. Keep an empty coffee can beside the bananas for guests to throw away their peels if they elect to make banana splits.
5. Set the brownies, a bowl with 2 cups of strawberries, a bowl with 2 cups of breakfast cereal and a bowl of chopped nuts in a line beside the bananas. Arrange bottles of chocolate, strawberry and caramel dessert syrup next to the ice cream toppings.
6. Place a bowl of pickles at the end of the ice cream sundae bar so guests will be sure to see it.
7. Put a pair of serving tongs with the pickles and one with the brownies or cookies. Insert a serving spoon into the bowl of strawberries, cereal and nuts.
8. Stack the dessert spoons at the end of the table for the guests to pick up after they create their culinary masterpieces.
