Prepare Beverages For A Crowd

There's no bigger crowd-pleaser than a blender bursting with ice, fresh ingredients and a splash or two of booze--and a charming bartender to serve it all. You can be that charming bartender, and mix drinks for your friends with a flourish. All you need is the right equipment, ingredients and atmosphere--and don't forget, a twinkle in your eye. Instructions


1. Watch the classic Tom Cruise movie "Cocktail" for idea on be an entertaining bartender. Practice serving drinks with flair by treating family members or close friends to a few custom-blended treats.


2. Brush up on your bartending skills by reviewing your recipe book. Make a list of drinks friends you've invited to the party typically order, and make sure you've purchased the right ingredients beforehand.


3. Designate an area as "the bar," whether it's a counter in your kitchen or a corner by your pool. Bring all bartending equipment and ingredients here. Decorations can be a fun touch--check your party store for oversized margarita glasses or tropical items like leis and tiki huts.


4. Prepare a few popular drinks as guests arrive so they understand that the services of a friendly bartender are part of the festivities. Mix drinks like frozen margaritas, pina coladas, mojitos and martini favorites like sour apples or cosmopolitans to set the tone.


5. Ask, "What's your poison?" with a disarming smile as guests approach your makeshift bar. Mix drinks with your practiced brand of flourish and serve in appropriate glasses or tumblers with garnishes. Take orders quickly without appearing flustered.
