Throw An Awesome Sweet 16

Make your Sweet 16 something to smile about.

Your Sweet 16 party should be a night you remember for the rest of your life. If your 16th birthday is coming up, you can plan to throw a killer party for your friends and family. Different things make a party awesome to different groups of people, but making sure everyone has something to do and being in a relaxed environment with people you care about guarantees success. Invitations, refreshments, activities and decorations all combine to create an awesome Sweet 16. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Decide on a theme. Even if you want to base the theme on a color, stick with the idea when choosing food, invitations, etc. Plan your event around some type of activity. For example, you could have a movie night and ask everyone to dress like her favorite star. Other possible ideas include a spa night, dance club or beach party.

2. Secure a location. If you're going to have the party at your house, then you're set. If you want to see a movie, play mini golf or roller skate, call the venue to arrange for the date and space you need. Plan transportation to and from the event. Depending on your budget, you could rent a limo to ferry your friends from one point to another. If you're going to have dancing, you might want to schedule a DJ.

3. Create a schedule of activities. You don't have to stay exactly on schedule, but you should know the start and end times and have activities planned for the time your guests are at the party. Center activities on your theme. For example, if your party has a Hawaiian theme, activities might include decorating leis or listening to island music while everyone tries to do the hula.

4. Plan the food and decorations. Stick to a few colors for the decorations such as streamers, balloons and a "Sweet 16" banner. Put up some pictures of yourself and your family and friends. Buy food that your guests will enjoy and that keep up the theme of the night. Don't forget to plan for a cake.

5. Purchase invitations, and send them out at least a month in advance; six to eight weeks before is better. Include information for responding by phone or email, and keep a list of who is coming so you know how much food and how many party favors you need.
