Organize A Hawaiian Theme Party

An integral part of a Hawaiian party is the food.

So many occasions can work well with a Hawaiian theme, from a summer barbecue or pool party in the backyard to a company picnic, retirement party or birthday celebration. The theme conjures up the tropical image of being on the island, and you can mimic the experience with the right preparations. A Hawaiian-theme party is easy to organize if you take into consideration four basic party-planning areas: invitations/decorations, food, activities and attire. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Design your invitation. Try making a postcard by snapping a photo of you in Hawaiian attire and writing or printing the party details on the back. Mypartyplanner.com suggests writing the invitation on a pair of inexpensive, colorful flip-flops. You can always go the traditional route of using card-stock invitations.

2. Choose your party attire. Think Hawaiian tourist: lei, Hawaiian-print shirt, shorts, a hat, sunglasses. Other options: hula girl and surfer.

3. Decorate your party space with tiki torches, hibiscus, travel posters, banners, colorful tableskirts and cutouts. Decorations are made simple with scene setters and tropical backdrops. Place centerpieces such as hula girls, palm trees or hibiscus flowers.

4. Incorporate pineapple into your Hawaiian party dishes.

Look up Hawaiian food recipes on sites such as FoodNetwork.com. You'll find easy-to-make recipes. If making the dishes is not an option, consider getting the food catered. Remember that roasted pig is the quintessential luau food.

5. Consider activities for the party. Hula dancing, limbo, lei-making races and swimming are fun ways to pass the time.
